Eric Barratt

Chairman

 

Graduated Victoria University Wellington - Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (1970) Member NZ Institute of Chartered of Accountants since 1973. Elected as Fellow (1992). Accredited Member of NZ Institute of Directors (2009).

Served with Sanford in a number of roles since 1977. Appointed a Director in 1986 and Managing Director of Sanford Limited on 1 January 1998. Also is a director of Sanford subsidiaries and associated companies in NZ, Australia, and China.

Extensively involved in introduction of, and subsequent changes to, New Zealand Quota Management System.

Director of New Zealand Seafood Industry Council and involved in formation of and member of NZ Business Council for Sustainable Development.

 

 

Michael
Park

Deputy Chairman


Michael Park has wide trade and commerce experience within the private sector, spanning nearly 30 years.  He has contributed substantially to the fostering of effective business relationships within all aspects of these industries, with particular emphasis on international relations between New Zealand and Korea. Michael has been a founding member of Korea New Zealand Business Council and currently the vice chairman.

Michael has accumulated an impressive network of business contacts in Korea. He has to date enjoyed the successful management of several companies and continues to be esteemed as a leader within the Korean Community in New Zealand. Michael has established the New Zealand Centre in Seoul, Korea, in 2005 and has been promoting New Zealand culture and education in particular as the chairman. Michael graduated from the Victoria University of Wellington majored in Economics.

 

Philip Eustace

Immediate Past Chairman

Philip Eustace has his own business involved in import and export of products to and from Korea. He also consults on Korean Business matters.

Prior to this Philip worked with the Hyundai distributor in New Zealand for 20 years and has developed a very wide network of contacts in Korea. In 1997 Philip received a Minister’s Citation form the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Mr Hae-Joo Chung in 1997, for the development of the Korean Economy through trade promotion.

Philip has had a long career in the motor industry in New Zealand spanning 26 years and has also worked in the transport industry and a trading company.

 

James Corke

Treasurer

James Corke is a director of Wiseman Digital Surveillance Ltd a CCTV security company which imports from Korea.

He is a previous Chairman of the Council.

James is a chartered accountant and holds an honours degree in Economics from London.

He has many directorships including extensive involvement in the NZ Film industry.

You Taek specialises in various areas of law especially in company & commercial, business law, dispute resolution, rural and residential property and development and finance & banking. He was working at Russell McVeagh as a senior solicitor for 8 years and as a special counsel at Minter Ellison Rudd Watts lawyers for 3 years. He has then founded Y T Choi lawyers in 2004.

Giff M. Davidson



Thirty-nine years with Shell Holdings NZ Ltd including overseas posting and assignments. Subsequently held a number of appointments in the Public and Private sector. Some, as follows:

1. Past Chairman of KNZBC;

2. Past Chairman of the NZ Chamber of Commerce;

3. Past President of Wellington Chamber of Commerce and Life Member;

4. Just retired from Chair of a small Govt. SOE and had been member of Board and/or Chair of four crown Entities,incl. the board of Forest Research Institute and Chair of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Foundation;

Anne French


Anne French is a specialist in innovation and strategy. Her consulting practice provides advice to research organisations, government agencies, and innovative companies on matters relating to organisational strategy, research strategy, research funding, programme management, and commercialisation. She has extensive experience in research funding, from developing national funding strategies, fund design, fund management; to bidding successfully for research funding). She was formerly International Relationships Manager at FRST, New Zealand's principal government science funder. Korea was a special focus of her work there. She negotiated a funder-to-funder agreement KOSEF to develop research collaborations between Korean and NZ research organisations and teams. One such is the Korea-New Zealand Joint Robotics programme for elder-care robots, a successful multi-year collaboration between ETRI and the University of Auckland.

Anne French is also interested in Korean literature, especially poetry, from Hwang Chin-i to Han Yong-un (Manhae). She has recently translated the work of the contemporary woman poet Kim Seon-wu into English.

Prashant Kumar

As a New Zealand based representative for the North East Asia, Prashant’s role involves assisting New Zealand companies who are interested in doing business in the Japanese and Korean markets. He is also is responsible for raising the profile of this region with New Zealand companies, developing NZTE’s strategic approach to the region and representing NZTE on the Japan New Zealand Business Council and Korean New Zealand Business Council. Before taking on this role, Prashant was seconded to Auckland, Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) for the Rugby World Cup 2011 project. Prior to NZTE, Prashant worked at Deloitte as part of Business and Technology consulting practice where he was involved in consulting engagements across the corporate and public sectors in New Zealand. Prashant is passionate about mentoring, enjoys travelling and photography, and is an avid sportsman. He holds a Bachelor of Engineer(Hons.) degree from University of Auckland. Prashant is based in Auckland.

Steve Nielsen

Steve has been in the banking industry and with ANZ National Bank Ltd for the last 23 years. His banking career started in retail banking in Greymouth and has progressed to the International Trade finance area with the Auckland commercial banking team. Steve also had a brief secondment with ANZ London assisting large global commodity deals and structured trade finance.

Steve is currently a trade finance specialist working as a Manager Trade and Supply Chain in the transactional banking area of ANZ National Bank Ltd.

Trade and supply chain management involves covering importer and exporter risk mitigation products (such and L/C's, collections, bonds and guarantees) and also assisting customers with working capital needs and foreign currency financing (such as trade loans and import/export discounting).

ANZ National Bank has a very focused growth strategy centred around assisting clients trade with Asia, of which Korea is an important part. Therefore Steve is tasked with assisting new and existing clients import or export to or from this region.

Ken Oh

Ken Oh is the principal of Kenton Chambers Lawyers located in Auckland CBD area, which has good reputation among in Asian Communities including Korean community. Ken has worked for Kim & Chang Law Firm which is one of the biggest and best law firms in Korea. After his law School in Auckland University in New Zealand, he has worked at Bell Gully law firm which is one of the biggest and reputable law firms in New Zealand. After obtaining his good and wide range work experiences in Bell Gully, he has established Kenton Chambers Lawyers in 2002. His firm is specialized in immigration, finance, investment, international banking and international trade contract, disputes and litigation, Debt collection, insolvency and all kinds of legal matters in New Zealand as well. He is passionate to contribute his knowledge and experience for both Korea and New Zealand society.

Tara Pradhan

 

Tara is the Manager of the International Relations team at Auckland Council, which aims to connect Auckland internationally by creating and leveraging economic and cultural opportunities through collaboration with partners and stakeholders. The Council’s partnerships are with cities and countries across Asia, the Pacific, Europe, Australia and the United States. The team facilitate official visits and delegations to the city and manage Auckland’s international partnerships. Tara works closely with the Mayoral office and across the Auckland Council and its organisations, as well as with central government agencies, education and business organisations in NZ and offshore and the partner cities.

Tara has extensive experience in local government, in economic development, strategy and major events with the former Auckland City Council. Previous positions have included Manager Economic Sectors, Manager Economic Development, Manager City Events, Manager Creative Industries and management roles in Strategy and the transition to the new Auckland Council. Tara is a Leadership New Zealand alumni, an advisory board member of Film Auckland and a former board member of Massive Theatre Company. She holds a Masters of Arts from the University of Auckland and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from Massey University.

Auckland Council has partner relationships with Busan and Pohang in Korea and Tara is pleased to have the opportunity to enhance relations between Auckland and Korea through supporting the Korea New Zealand Business Council.

 


Michael Stephens

Eleanor
Thomson

This October, Eleanor Thomson replaced Patrick Rata as Deputy Director and Unit Head Japan & Koreas in Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade's North Asia Division. Eleanor joined MFAT in 1979. Her overseas postings include Tokyo (twice), Suva, Berlin, Noumea (as Head of Mission) and briefly in Niue as Acting High Commissioner. She last served in North Asia Division in 2005-6 as Deputy Director for China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Mongolia. Her most recent assignment was as Deputy Director United Nations, Human Rights and Commonwealth Division. Eleanor last visited Korea in 1990 for an APEC Leaders Meeting. She is very much looking forward to visiting again in the near future and acquainting herself with the many developments in the country. She is pleased to have the opportunity to work with the Korea/New Zealand Business Council towards enhancing Korea-New Zealand bilateral relations and in particular the business relationship.

Dr Richard Worth

 

 

Dr the Honourable Richard Worth is a former Minister of the New Zealand Government, and was for 13 years the Chairman of Simpson Grierson, New Zealand’s largest law firm. From 2006 to 2009 he was Chairman of the Korea NZ Business Council

He is committed to strengthening the relationship between Korea and New Zealand and is well known in the Korean business community. His honours include Order of the British Empire and Knight of Justice of the Order of St John.

He is actively involved as a lawyer in international business.

 

Fergus
McLean

Executive Director

Twelve years experience on the trade development front line, as NZ Trade Commissioner in three different locations: Brussels, covering Benelux and Scandinavia; Vienna, covering Austria and the then Socialist countries of Eastern Europe; and Canberra - the time in Canberra was trade policy-based, involved with the negotiation and then the early operation of the CER Agreement. Eleven years as the Secretary of the Boards of Directors of the Market Development Board, the Trade Development Board, and Trade New Zealand/Tradenz, and in various general management roles. Since 1998, the Executive Director of three bilateral international business councils, and involved with occasional trade-related research projects.
